Yes, I have seen it done here in Rockport, Texas at our Annual HummerBird Celebration. It's pretty cool to watch. I don't think that I could handle one of those little birds. I would be afraid to hurt it.

Don't hesitate to pick one up to offer help. I've had one in my hand with a broken wing, another that had been flying back and forth on my porch for a long time trying to go up, one that was laying on the ground, etc. Rockport is just about as far as Holly Springs, MS for me. There should be somebody banding between Missouri and Louisiana.

There are a number of licensed banders in south Louisiana ... Nancy Newfield (Metairie), Dave Patton (Lafayette), and Linda Beall (Covington). May be more, but those are the ones I know of.

If anyone knows of any hummingbird banding being conducted in Arkansas, please let me know. I have a Master Banders License but it is for Purple Martins. I would love to see some hummers being banded and processed.

Let me know Tim if you find out where a banding in Arkansas will take place? I did not realize that most of them are probably private.

P.S. Lanny Chalmers banded a leucistic hummer (mostly white) July 20th near Arcadia, Mo. Was at a private residence that called him and the bird was first in the trap. Said those people will be putting out 2 gallons of nectar by Labor Day, but are only putting out one gallon per day currently. Is it unethical or illegal for me to post his pics or video for the bird?

There is another one in South Carolina, near the coast. Her name is Doreen McCubie and she is part of the Banding Research Project that has been going on for years. She learned from Fred Bassett in Alabama.

They both have banded in my yard and I have gotten to hold 2 different hummers, a Ruby and a Rufous. Amazing creatures!
