I was watering some flowers in the yard today and a female hummer was diving down into the mist (I have a feeder nearby), so I sprayed into the air and she darted back and forth through the outer mist five or six times, then another female flew through and she chased her off, flew back in a couple more times and landed on the rose of sharon and preened her feathers. I had an experience when watering before but nothing like this.

That's cool! I've read that they like and need water like that, so I installed a 1/4" hose and mister attachment near the feeders and I turn it on every once in a while. However, i've never seen a humingbird around while I was watching with the mister on, so I don't know if they use it or not. Lucky you!

Hosta House, that must of been one amazing experience! Hope it happens again for you! I am sure if I was outside with a hose the hummingbirds would not even enter the yard.

Hummers like to cool off like other birds. A friend at work turns her sprinkler on in the heat of the day. The hummers love to hover in the mist. And her other birds like it to.

I bought one of those misters today. I'll put it out on my balcony tomorrow afternoon when the temp gets up high. I hope the hummers like it.
