I used to cringe at the sight of my neighbors Rose of Sharon.

In the few years that I've had hummers, I never saw them hit the ROS. My neighbor isn't a gardener by any means, doesn't grow much, and doesn't understand the word prune or deadhead. I get hundreds of ROS seedlings in my veggie patch and surrounding beds every year. I hate the darn thing. Well, not so much anymore. The female has been hitting it sooooo much in the last few days. I snapped about 50 pics and only had the 3 keepers, and I'm not even that impressed with them.

Also, I finally have a male! I'm surprised she actually lets him in now. She had disappeared for a weekend and I hadn't seen her as much as usual, so I assumed she was nesting. Maybe this little boy is her baby? He's awfully tiny, but the red neck is pretty dark. I'm just happy to have 2 now.

So much for bad luck on Friday the 13th; it's been my best hummer day!
