Hi. I think the size of Ruby-throats can vary that much, especially this time of year when birds that were from the first breeding would be bigger, and others from a later breeding would be smaller. Also they are packing on fat if they can this time of year for migrating.

I have one I call "Fat Shiny" because she is so wide and seen from behind her feathers are perfect and a beautiful shiny green. Seen from the side she's also quite fat and her white is also glowingly perfect and beautiful. Even a sort of beer belly where the others are quite slim sideways. When she eats no one buzzes her or chases her away. So a dominant one that gets first dibs at food.

She is at least twice the size of the smaller ones that get buzzed and chased when they try to eat, and are duller and a lot slimmer both from sideways and from behind.
