Hummingbird Garden

Are they leaving already?

This summer I have had a record number of hummers in my yard...they appear to be nesting in a huge elm tree in the back yard. Voracious eaters until today! Instead of my usual early a.m. swarm, only one single bird. (It appears to be the same single hummer that was the first to show up in the Spring).
Can they be migrating already? I am in upstate NY near the south shore of Lake Ontario.

Yes, they are on the move here - the decreasing amount of daylight is what triggers their instinct to migrate.

I'll miss them! We are probably selling our house next summer--is it legal to require the buyers to continue feeding the hummers? LOL
