Hummingbird Garden

Hi All

Long time since I've been here, computer problems and busy.

I have an interesting experience to share, and welcome comments from the group.

The other day, there was an immature/female RT buzzing a Blue Jay. Shortly after, I saw the same (?) bird hanging upside down from a feeder perch. First thought was that the bird was dead, having been killed by the jay. But as I opened the kitchen door to go out, I turned to talk to my hubby. When I turned back to the door, the bird was gone. Not on the ground either, I checked.

There was a posting on another forum but I didn't read this until I was guided to it from the Canada hummingbird group on another site.

Has there been any such postings on this forum? Has anyone seen or heard of this before.

fritzmom, I believe it's called torpor or something similar. They've talked about it on this site, but I've never seen it. You could probably search it, if I spelled it correctly. Their hearts can't keep up with their bodies and it puts them into this state until they can regroup, I think.
