Thanks, Kenn! I enlarged the uncropped photo and counted 15 around the feeders. One is just a blur beside the knot on the post. There were 4 perched in the cedar tree. That's about half of my resident population.
Absolutely incredible! There's probably a law against any one birder having this many hummers in his viewfinder at once... or there should be. LOL! And it seems you've nearly stopped every buzzing wing too.
I've never tried taking bird photos with a flash... can I ask what cam and settings you used to capture these amazing pictures?
Thanks, Kenn! My camera is a little 4MP point and shoot Canon A85. It was manually focused at 8' and the flash was on 'AUTO'.
Thanks, alii! The feeders are 'Best-1' made in Poteet, TX. They are easy to take apart and clean. Clustering the feeders seems to reduce fighting if you have lots of birds. If you have only a few, it may be better to separate them so each bird has a feeder to claim. To answer your question from the other thread - noise doesn't seem to bother them. These feeders are just a few feet from the exhaust fan of a heat pump. They flinch a little when it comes on, but don't fly away.
Magnificent photos! I've been feeding hummers for years, and I've never had much luck getting multiple birds to share a feeder.. I'm in Middle Tn, and though we have a lot of hummers here, I haven't been lucky enough to ever see so many at one time! How lucky you are! I live in the city, and I think the group I feed flies all over the neighborhood. There are several other homes near mine that have feeders out.
