Hummingbird Garden

Is the HEAT affecting activity? or is it one possessive bird

I have one guy I've spotted CHASING everyone off, he has decided this is HIS feeder and he's not about to share. I wasn't sure it was the same hummer, but got out my binoculars and checked him out good, same hummer, chasing everyone who came around off.

Also, was wondering if the heat is a factor? We've been high 90's and into the 100's the past week....

I have seen a drastic reduction (used to fill 3/4 full and it was empty in 2 or 3 days) now this last time...I filled most of the way full and it's only about 3 inches down this time.

It's been hot here in WTN, too!! 100+ for the past week. 104 yesterday and forecast for today. 100+ forecast through Saturday. Delirium settin' in.

My hummer activity has increased during the morning and afternoon and diminished during midday. The overall activity has increased slightly in the last week - don't know if it's late fledging locals or early migrators.

I have the same thing. we have several hummers that recently showed up. it's been extremely hot. one has been fighting with the others to keep them away. I actually have 2 feeders and wondering if I should move one far away from the others so he won't be so possessive.
