Awww, so sorry! I didn't 'get it' at first, then realized the pics are a story, with a little piece of it for each shot. No idea what happened but you documented it well.

Thank you for taking the time to view & figure out my sad story. I forgot to mention to click to each picture to read the sequence of events. I took 47 shots w/ my li'l coolpix ~ t'was hard to choose the few for this album.

2 grandkids came to see my li'l lifeless guy up close, felt his irridescent feather gently, in awe, the li'l one (turning 2 in Sept) even gave him a kiss & said goodbye. Their Mom took pics!

That was a sad event, I occasionally find a dead HB and it usually bums me out all day.

However, I must tell you that he wasn't a baby. It was an adult male, probably at least a year old. His gorget is full and dark, I'd guess he was older than 1 year. He could've died from old age, but that doesn't make it any less sad.

Thank you ctnchpr, for the correction ~ I went bach to my albums on these li'l jewels outdoors & indeed you're right. 2 years ago 2 babies rounded in form, fluffy looking & w/o markings, hogged & guarded 2 of the Cafes (1 have 6 feeders around). The 2 babes were the last ones to finally leave after the adults have (about a several days sooner).

I've been re-reading some bookmarked info I have gathered as I felt blest & intrigued to have seen the behavior of, who I assumed a Mommy, coaxing & feeding the ill one. Do you suppose he was her mate? The Cassanovas aren't loyal, from what I have read & ladies are quite caring & protective!

These guys are so territorial w/ their chosen Cafes & would always chase away intruders! Interestingly she didn't seem to mind my attention to the ill one!
