Male on jewel box-vid

I was lucky enough to capture this adult male on my new jewel box feeder and knowing that the males will be gone any day now for good I was extremely happy to capture this footage. As an added note earlier I saw a young hummer on it that shuffled its feet from an outside port to the middle port , that was so cute. If you watch closely you will see this male shuffle its feet. Also since I was getting some bugs inside I added the nectar guard tips with some reservation as I remember some have said they thought some hummers would shy away because of the tips. But as you can see its not slowing this male down one little bit.

Steve I have to tell you I enjoyed your little video.

My hummingbird visitors are draining my PP feeders daily right now. I am making a gallon or so a day of nectar for those passing through.

Bitter sweet. I know that after the first of October the numbers will be one or two each day.

Glad you are having such great success right now my numbers are down right now, but I am still having males although they will soon be gone. Yes this is a bitter-sweet time of the hummer season, but a true harvest time for many hummer lovers. I think Ken is now getting his due and understanding what we have been trying to tell him all along. I dont think Ive had an October hummer here .

mimidi: A gallon or so a day! Wow, you must just be swarmed! I'm going thru about a quart every other day and I thought I was busy. LOL

Yesterday I viewed an adult male on the jewelbox and today I viewed a juvie on it and just as Im typing another adult male landed on it but they seem quite hesitant to feed from it when they can see me.

As an update on the jewelbox I had noticed a couple of flies in the water after I had put on the nectar guards, no the hummers had not eaten them, this puzzled me. So when I changed the water I noticed one of the tips had come off and the reason being one of the tabs that held them on had bent out of position so the tip could not stay on. Guess I will just use it in this manner not wanting to spend the shipping price to replace it.
