Hummingbird moth? There's a few different kinds...

It was definitely a hummingbird. It had distinct tail feathers which it used to steady itself. I've seen the hummingbird moths several times and this was not one of them. The really striking part, other than it's size, was the coloration. It was a very intense iridescent blue/green that reflected the sunlight. The people that lived in the apartment we were looking at said it had been hanging around for several weeks. Of course, no one had a camera or video to take pictures. We're going back down there next weekend and believe me I'll be prepared this time. Hope it's still there.

Tracy, those are some great pictures. I see a lot of those hummingbird
moth's on my tree that is loaded with very fragrant tubular flowers. I only
notice them at night. They are really cool.

Interesting. A friend in Prairie Village Kansas asked me Thursday what hummingbird is about 1/2 the size of a ruby throated one. The bee hummingbird was the only one that I could find that would be that small. She said if her camera was working she would try to take a picture.

I thought i'd sound crazy if I mentioned seeing a bee hummer many years ago,(20)inside a very large rhododendron blossom.At first I backed away because I was standing very close to what I thought was a very big bumblebee. I was amazed to see a humming bird, and at the size of it. (at that time I didn't know about bee hummers) That was then, and I have never seen another, although rubythroated visit our feeders. So I guess maybe those little bee's go on vacation to cooler climes in the summmer...lol..lol.
