How many hummers do I have?

I put up 2 six-hole feeders to attract hummingbirds to my garden and now find that they are going through 50-60 ounces of nectar per day. I periodically will see six birds at each feeder feeding peacefully (for a moment). Any idea of how many birds I have feeding here?

There's a formula that can be used to calculate your population: Multiply the number of hummers that you see at any given time by 4 to get a minimum, and by 5 for a maximum. If I'm sitting on my deck, I'll count all the hummers at the feeders, wait a minute, then count again. (Sort'a like 'The Count' on Sesame Street, minus the laughter & lighting.) I count at various times of the day, every day. That gives me a good average. Earlier in the Summer, the average was a little over 9, now it's a little over 12, so my estimated group is between 50 and 60. HTH!!
