A Scary Moment!

Yesterday afternoon while approaching their "fav" feeder to remove and refill, I saw a hummer with beak pointed to the ground and tail slightly curved up on a perch. It seemed "looped" over the perch and at first glance, I thought maybe a wing had somehow become wedged under the base. My heart stopped for a moment, but as I lifted my finger toward her, she immediately flew away and returned quickly to the same feeder...thankfully! I inspected the feeder and found no damage to the base or any of the ports, but just to be on the safe side, I replaced the feeder.

In all my years of feeding hummers, I've never witnessed any mishaps, but for just a brief moment, I was afraid this might be a first!

This morning, I'm seeing more males than females...looks like more of the females have moved on and more males are arriving. We're having some cooler early morning and late afternoon temps, so the population will probably start to decrease...sniff, sniff!!!!
