Are you absolutely sure the hummer was dead. Do you know that when it gets cold, hummers can go into a condition of torpor in which they can appear dead but they do this to survive and it takes them a while to come out of this. But if the hummer was dead its not likely to be your fault. Some hummers can become ill or weak and just die. Dont fret over it , its just natures way.

I am sure it was dead, I changed out the syrup and sterilized all. I have seen only one hummer intermittently over the past few days. My thoughts are that they have moved on as the weather has gotten quite cold.

I have had hummers daily one at a time, never having two at once. But as of today the 12th Ive had several visits, Im sure the warmup has helped as it hasnt frosted here yet and my plants are still blooming.
