Hummer today

Hummers are still plentiful in central california. I just moved into this house a few months ago, and the backyard is not too hummer friendly yet. It did have this honeysuckle when I bought it, so I see a few.

This is from today during my morning coffee in the yard:

Great photo. What is your camera and lens? Tripod or bean bag support, surely this photo is not hand held ?!

Thanks for the compliment :) I just take my coffee cup and camera out into the yard for my morning coffee and shoot whatever happens to come through. The shot is handheld, 1/2000, f/7.1, ISO800, with my Rebel T2i + 55-250IS lens.

We're having an odd rainstorm today in central California- alternating between bright sun and rain. Caught this one between showers:

Something highly unusual here...saw a hummer yesterday and it's still here today. Put the feeder back up yesteday. Locally, they usually disappear around mid-October, so I was shocked to see this one! Forecasted high today is only 60 because a front came in...one mild freeze recently. Thank goodness it's supposed to get a bit warmer as the moisture moves in.

Second mild freeze last night and hummingbirds are still here. There's fewer of their hummer plants blooming, so they mostly go to the feeder. I've heard some species can tolerate cold better, but I don't know which species these are that are hanging around. I don't think they are Black-chinned (the species that stays through the summer here locally). I think their beak is shorter and they are more vocal than that kind.

Nice pcs , nice camera. I also have this camera. Also I have honeysuckle in my yard and it is used often. I have coral honeysuckle and goldflame honeysuckle. In my area the battle is to keep aphids from destroying them. But a new honeysuckle "major wheeler" last season had no aphids or mildew, quite happy with it. My last hummer here in central indy was oct 21 a record for lateness in my yard.
