Hummingbird Garden

I'm a little confused here. I used Trader Joe's organic sugar (from cane juice) to make the hummingbird nectar. the sugar and thus the nectar are tinted brown, from what the bag says is sugar crystals rich in flavor and molasses. Is that alright? The recipe for the nectar says to use just pure granulated sugar, no additional additives.

Do you see why I'm confused?

Sugar from organically grown sugar cane is OK, as long as it's been refined to remove the molasses. Some sugars are labeled as "organic" when they should be labeled "raw" or "unrefined". Don't make nectar from anything that isn't REFINED SUGAR, preferably cane sugar.
