I have two of them, and yes it's invasive!

WHAT is the name of this vine?? I grow cardinal vine and the hummers love it. It seeds all over the place but easily pulls out.

There are two plants that go by the common name of hummingbird vine. One is the trumpet vine (Campsis radicans). It's extremely tough and would be capable of moving roofing. It's deciduous but comes back from the wood. The other is the Cypress vine (Ipomoea quamoclit). It's either a tender perennial down south or a freely reseeding annual where hard freezes occur. It has a fern-like appearance to the foliage. Very rapid growth but I would doubt it's ability to dig into physical structures as it is not woody. Both are hummingbird magnets.

I have trumpet vine and it is very aggressive. Not only does the original vine grow tall and strong, but it sends up new sprouts up to 20 feet from the original. I was aware of the aggressive nature of the plant, so I planted it on a chain-link fence about 40' from the house. They like full sun and bloom on new growth, so I prune mine vigorously in the early spring. I'm able to mow over all the new sprouts, except those right along the fence. Those I just let grow.

If it is a trumpet vine Campsis radicans, then keep it away from everything. I have a large yard and would never consider planting it. I've seen it take down fences. Some people have an allergic reaction to it. Here is some information on trumpet vine.
