How do you have a new plant tested and patented?

Hi,
I ended up with a very unusual Echinacea this year and someone told me to have the plant tested and then patent it. I am clueless as how to do this, does anyone know where to point me?
Thank you, Kathy

Hi. I would also like to know the answer to that question.
I have a heuchera from an F1 commercial seed packet that has alot of desirable traits. Because Thompson and Morgan encourages hybridizing, I sent them a message early this am to see if they would be interested in this F2's self-pollinated seeds, or an offset. If I hear anything back, I will let you know. Of course, I am giving the seeds/plants without asking for licenseing rights. I have cancer and will probably not have the three or so years it takes to trial a plant, or grow all of these seedlings to fruition.
As you go through their catalog you will often find plants where they have credited the growers. I would be happy to share what information I may receive from them. My email is msturtlesoup.com. Thanks for your time.PS I've always had a hard time with ecinacea but I have grown some, and I don't remember a white.SAM
