Salvia Compatibility

I've been looking at Salvia crosses and wonder if the New World species are compatible with the Old World species. I've found a nicely domesticated New World species with the same chromosome count as a Mexican species (not S. divinorum) that is, unfortunately, a short-day bloomer. I'd like to see if I can break it of this annoying habit.

I have had similar ideas using Salvia Splendens. The wild form of Salvia Splendens fairly closely resembles Salvia Divinorum at a glance and they both have similar chromosome counts. Also as long as the chromosome combinations end up being even quite a few salvia species should be able to cross breed with divinorum. I also thought it would be really warped to try and breed Salvia apiana with divinorum...
