Low chill tulips?

Does anyone know if someone has done hybridizing with some of the more Mediterranean type tulip species, to develop varieties that will grow easily in the Sunbelt? I have been reading about species like Tulipa clusiana, T. goulimyi, T. saxatilis or its diploid cousins, or T. sylvestris. Possibly also T. systola or T. polychroma.

Any info appreciated!
