 o
Blue Flowered Belamcanda ?

Posted by zdjm21 5 - Chicago (My Page) on

Last summer, several belamcanda I started from seeds in 2001, had finally bloomed. One of them had a very unusual blue color, and its flower stalk was much shorter than any of the "normal" ones. As a matter of fact, the foliage was much taller than the flower.

I already have several seedlings started from this "blue" parent, and I am very interested to see if these traits carry on to the children.

Please share any comments or experiences on "blueness" in belamcanda and its heritability, because I am only aware of yellow/orange/red variations

Thanks!

Nice color! I'm no expert on Belamcandas, but you may have a Parancanda seedling instead of a Belamcanda. From what I can find, they are very similar, but Pardancanda (Candy Lily) is a bigeneric cross of Belamcanda chinensis x Pardanthopsis dichotoma that extends the color range into the blues and purples. Any experts out there to confirm?

This looks much like my Pardancandas, except for the colour. There are certainly Pardancandas in this colour range.
