Exchange?

Hello, all. It occurs to me that many of us may have limited amounts of special material (seeds, cuttings, plants) which might be helpful to share with others interested in hybridizing the same plants. Unlike the seed or plant exchanges where offers of anything for free are snatched up at once, without regard for climate or know-how, this would be for someone genuinely interested in that plant. My suggestion would be to post with what plant you are working, a little information about that, and perhaps what species or cultivars might be useful in your work. Others could respond directly to the poster. Any thoughts?

Good idea! I was hoping to trade rose pollen this year. And I'm interested in any OP or other rose seeds that anyone would like to share. Let me know what sorts of things you are interested in. I want especially dark-colored Chinas or Teas, mauves of any type, anything particularly fragrant, and hexaploid and other species roses. When my Cramoisi Superior blooms, I'd like to send pollen to a more experienced hybridizer. I swear it set hips last year, but I believe it is not supposed to be fertile.

Hello, Ncgardener. Looked up your rose, 'Cramoisi Superior', and it is beautiful! You might be happy to hear it is fertile, and has a number of descendants listed at the site linked below. Have some o.p. rose seeds to share if you'd like to e-mail me directly; also a very few rose species seeds. John

Pardancanda, Thank you for the info on Cramoisi! I had read that it (or at least its climbing sport) was triploid and assumed that it was mostly sterile. I'm very happy to see that it is not. Would you like me to root a cutting for you for the fall? Or pollen when it blooms. This is one I'm already rooting and trading anyway. BTW, if anyone does not have Champlain and wants a rooted cutting, let me know. I do not care for this rose and will probably use it mostly for cuttings to trade. |

If anyone is doing stuff with grapes, I'd be happy to share/trade with them. I have a lot of seed from Muscat x American Species hybrid grapes.
