blue toned camellia

Last year, I had a burgundy camellia bloom with stong blues at the petal base of many of the flowers. This year, I saw hints of that, but not as strongly. Can anyone explain why this might happen and how I can encourage it?

Thanks for you help.

RE: blue toned camellia

Hi
Can't explain it but check the acidity level of the soil.
High acid levels will cause "Bluish "strains of roses to be much bluer.
