Cold zone rose breeders I want to pick your brains!

I going to step up my breeding. What hardy roses have you found to be the best pollen and pod parents?

You might learn something from the work of Canadian rose breeder, George Mander.

And on my web page I have several articles by another Canadian breeder, the late Percy Wright, who had much to say about breeding for hardiness. So did Skinner.

I am trying to combine Canadian, Buck, Austin, and Kordes roses plus a few species. If you look at what I am germinating this year you will get an idea of where I am at in this program.

Other links at my main web pages will take you to previous crops and pictures of seedlings. Each year I distribute open pollinated hips of my prior crosses by announcing them on the rose hybridizer's forum.

Good luck,

Dornrosen has been a good seed parent for me. Its quite hardy and the hips ripen faster than many modern roses. On the downside, the rebloom is slow to non-existant if you let it set hips (and it makes a lot). Some of the seedlings do this also.
