Sequoiadendron hybrid

I seem to remember reading somewhere (probably in a Silvics text) that hybrids had been made between Sequoiadendron and Metasequoia. Does anybody know if these plants exist? I think I also remember reading that these two trees were really not as closely related as once thought, so hybrids between them would not be a likely source for the origin of Sequoia. Can anybody help me out?
