My daughter grew some Kong recently and the conditions must have been just right because we got a perfect head of seeds. Funny thing was that the seeds were all black. The original seeds we got from Pinetree were all white, so something must have changed. Admittedly, we grew Mammoth Russian right next to the Kong so the offspring will almost certainly be hybrids, but the color of the seed coat should not be affected by the pollen. Shouldn't that be controlled by the genes of the mother plant (in this case the Kong) ?

Growing conditions- Singapore; Equatorial climate; Very wet lately and always hot.

Grains like corn show a seed color which is influenced by the pollen parent, but that is because of a endosperm which is formed by a special 'triple' fusion with one pollen zygote and two egg zygotes. This is not a seed coat color, but a color of the seed itself.
