Surflan Seedling Conversion

Hey'all,

I did a search in this forum for info on chromosone doubling and found loads of good information, then later found a related page elsewhere that merits some attention. It gives clear instructions on creating stock solutions, working solutions and seed treatment for Daylily seedling conversion, but I'm hoping that the method and concentrations used can be applied to other species. Looks like next spring is going to be interesting.

One note on using the DMSO mentioned in the instructions; it's an amazing solvent that can transfer just about any chemical directly to your bloodstream through skin absorption, so use chemical resistant gloves (at least!) and be careful.

I just want to add to the comment about the dangers of DMSO and how well it will transfer other agent through you skin. Please make sure the gloves you are using are specifically DMSO resistant. Just because one glove works for chemical A or b doesn't mean it will work for chemical C.

The given link does not work. Is there a correction?

Rats! You're right. I even tried going to the parent directory and the site no longer exists. Sorry everyone. I'll look to see if I can find it elsewhere when I get back from vacation.

Found it...at least the text for it in a tissue culture archive. Instructions under A. (1) i-iii appear to be for preparing solutions from pure Oryzalin, while instructions under A. (2) i-iii are for preparing solutions from the Surflan (44.4% Oryzalin) that we know as a pre-emergent herbicide. I've been able to find Surflan at local seed and feed stores in 8 oz. bottles.
