Any interesting rose crosses?

Posted by tnangela (My Page) on

Something about counting your chickens before they hatch...but, oh-well. I'll share mine. The two crosses I'm most excited about this year and am anxiously watching the hips are:
Ballerina x Peace
Angel Face x John Franklin

Next year I've got another (secret) Peace cross up my sleaves (if god is willing) and another I'm wanting to try is
Knockout x Chrysler Imperial

Hi Tnangela,

Very nice crosses! You have some good ideas on what to cross, too.

I think that Ballerina *could* be a diploid, and Peace is a tetraploid, so you might end up with triploid (mule) seedlings from that cross. Which is OK, as not everyone likes to get seeds from their plants.

The rest of them are definately tetraploids, though.

May I offer you some rose links?

Oh, the cross I have this year is Wanderin' Wind x Crested Sweetheart. Crested Sweetheart is bit difficult to find pollen on, but I think it will be well worth the trouble.

There are so many more extremely wonderful sites to share, but I don't want to overload you.

Wow, in that last link, I love the cross he made '04-02-06'. It's quite nice. I left one of mine out...I have a large hip of Knockout x John Franklin. I didn't notice it until recently. I believe it will be the only Knockout seed I will receive this year (It was a HORRIBLE year for roses here in TN).

I have crossed this 'John Davis' seedling of mine with 'Morden Sunrise'... in the hopes of obtaining very hardy yellow floribunda types. Terry

That's absolutely gorgeous. I want one!!! ...where can I buy it :>)
I had left out my comment on 'wonderin wind' and the forum wouldn't let me make a post on top of a post so here goes...I read somewhere else of someone using 'wonderin wind' as a seed parent..so it seems popular for that (got to hand it Griffith Buck). I really like knockout seedlings...I would say they probably get their best attributes from Bucks' 'Carefree Beauty' (seed parent of knockout)...so...
I've got to get me some more Buck roses...Golden Unicorn is absolutely at the top of my list...but all Buck roses seem to be supreme.
BTW: I've harvested a lot of my hips already and they are potted and in for cold treatment.
