Tomatillo hybrids?

| I grow tomatillos, usually from the abundant volunteers which appear in my garden.
I've noticed at least two wild Physalis species growing in close proximity to the tomatillos. Is there any reason to fear that a poisonous natural hybrid could develop and that I would mistake the hybrid for tomatillos?

| What kind of wild physalis plants grow in massachusetts? Are they of the ground cherry sort? I have always wanted to cross a good ground cherry with a good tomatillo, have just never gotten around to trying it. Some tomatillos make pretty good eating and are large, whereas the ground cherries are very good, but small. I would think that a cross would help bring out the best in each. |
