Hybridizing spider and unusual form daylilies

Just completed my third season crossing spider and unusual form daylilies.... Love to discuss how people take care of thier seeds... First two years my seed count was small in comparison with this year.... Not having a greenhouse, I have planted a number directly in the ground and plan to plant another large portion directly in the ground the first week in April..... Living in zone 6 , I understand a number of people do this. Also , I will start a few indoors in a south window around the first of Feb...... Love to hear how others handle their seeds.............

Do you have f2 or f3 yet I give mine a head start in a flowerbox indoors until It gets a bulb and I can distinguish it from grass then I set it out in a weed free area and keep it weeded. I just do day lilies and irises .you crossbreeds interest me tell me of your break throughs.

I've been crossing daylilies for only about as long as you have. (I've been growng them for about 10 years though.) I don't have a lot of room, so I can usually only plant about 100 to 150 a year. Then, I have to get really ruthless when they bloom. My friends and neighbors love me because I give away the rejects.

Now to answer your question. I store my seeds in little plastic bags(about 1 1/2 X 2) with a few drops of water, then put them in the fridge until I'm ready to plant. (I read this method on one of the breeders sights years ago. It works great!) A lot of the seeds are showing signs of sprouting by the time I get around to planting them in Feb. I'm lucky enough to have room in my basement for a two tier light table my husband built for me. I plant them in large peat pots under the lights and keep them moist, but never wet. Then by May, I have really nice sized seedings to set out. Some of them will even bloom for me the first year.
Hope that helps,
Trish

Does anyone have any extra seeds of the unsual form or spider daylilies to share? I just found these and am "in love."

Thanks,
