| WOW - I am in awe! Can't pick a fav from the pics you've posted - love them all, but this one is esp pretty. I noticed in the "my hydrangeas" pic that some are planted close to a tree - do you have to water a lot or do they grow that well on their own once established? Would a grouping of hydrangeas and hostas survive the dry conditions under a mature maple? If so how far from the base would you begin planting? These are just sooooo beautiful! Thanks for posting. It probably depends on the type of maple. I can grow some plants near (3-6') a silver maple but other people have said no way on their other types of maples. Phillip, do you have a picture from last year? |

| Frances, that is a massive pecan tree that those hydranges are planted under. Most of the hydranges are on a slight slope so the tree's roots probably are much lower than theirs. I also have hydrangeas planted underneath some sawtooth oak trees and they are doing fine (they were just planted last year). Luis, I have a photo from last year and I will try and locate it. |

| Just a few more random questions, Phillip. Is PT planted in the ground? Has this year been rainy? About your soil, is it acid or alkaline? clayey? Finally, how long do your Purple Tiers blooms last over there? Luis |

| Luis, here is a photo of Purple Tiers last year during its first year. I don't know why the color is totally different this year. I mainly have acid soil and the majority of my hydrangeas are blue. This one is planted in the ground and it blooms for a long time, almost all summer. The blooms come and go. We've had regular rain this spring but this month has been dry. We need rain bad!
