Hydrangea Selection Help Needed

Hello group,

This is my first post here, but let me say that I adore hydrangeas. They are my all-time favorite flower. But, I'm not an experienced gardener, and I hope you can help me make some decisions about planting.

First, I live in Wisconsin, Zone 4b, so the winters are cold. I would like to plant some hydrangeas in front of our covered front porch railing area, and I would prefer deep pink or red hydrangeas that bloom until frost. I'm envisioning a wonderfully old-fashioned front perennial planting area. In terms of height, I want something in the 3' - 5' range. The porch area is shady for about half the day and sunny the other halp. Endless Summer varieties have been very difficult to grow, and the one I have now only reaches 12" or so and only has one flower. :o(

I realize that climate is the biggest hurdle here, and I've been considering varieties like the red hydrangea and Invincible Spirit.

What advice do you have for the novice hydrangea lover?
