Can I move a damaged, mature Limelight?

My favorite Limelight, about 5 years old, got wrecked by ice and snow this winter. It is literally in pieces. I had planned to cut all the wood back in some sort of shape on the assumption that the plant would recover eventually, but now it turns out it can't stay in that spot.

The prospect of digging it up is a little daunting. Should I go for it? Or would this be a wasted effort?

You already know it can't stay in this spot. The options are move it or kill it. I would try to move it and see what happens. If it turns out too difficult or doesn't make it, you can get another this summer. Yours should leaf out if it lives sooner than all the garden centers will start carrying these in bloom.
