Need a hydrangea recommendation

Hi all,

I love hydrangeas but haven't had great success growing them in the past. I'm thinking it's time to try again.

I've got a bed along the west side of my home. It gets a lot of sun in the afternoon and evening once the shadow of the house disappears. The soil here (west side of Raleigh, NC) is lots of clay, and I've lost more than one plant due to poor drainage and water logged roots. I've got drip irrigation in the beds, but municipal restrictions only allow me to run it 3 days a week. On other days, I have to hand water, which I'm not great about doing :-).

Any thoughts on a hydrangea that I might be able to grow there? I'm not picky about color, but I'd like something that will get pretty big, and it'd be great to be able to trim blooms to have in the house at times. Also, low maintenance is always a plus.

Thanks for your advice!
Doug
