Baby Arborescens hydrangea - how to care?

alina_1

I just received my Invincebelle Spitit Hydrangea (ordered online). The plant arrived in a 3" pot. Two leggy branches growing from the ground, look almost like vines. I've never grown Arborescens before. I potted it in 2 Gallon pot. Added some bone meal to the potting soil.

If I prune the branches, would this encourage branching? Can I root the cuttings? I know it is a patented variety, but I am not going to sell the cuttings or to give them away. Just a back up for me in case the original plant is lost.

I do not really care about possible blooming this year, although seeing it in bloom would be great...

Any other advice?

Thanks in advance!
