Adding Lime to Hydrangeas

gardenbug

I have both a blue mophead hydrangea and a lilac tree. They have been in the ground for about 20 years or more. They are planted on the east side of my house where they get morning sun and afternoon shade.

I understand that lilacs like a bit of lime added to the soil. I also understand that aluminum sulphate will give blue flowers.

My question is, if I were to add some lime to the soil around the hydrangea would it make the blooms pink? I would love it to be pink. Last year I put aluminum sulphate in the soil and the blooms became a deeper blue.

Thank you for your help.

To some this up..Can I add lime to both the lilac and hydrangea and end up with pink blooms on my hydrangea?
