How much sun and shade on the east side? I usually think of the east side of the house as the perfect place to grow any number of hydrangeas. Some morning light, shade all afternoon--sounds perfect.

Have you looked at the ever-popular Endless Summer? Or how about Limelight--with the greenish cast to it at times?

Other than the paniculatas which like sun and a few like Nikko Blue which prefer shade, there are many choices available to you, so just figure out what size you like, what color, perhaps what kind of bloom--like a mophead, for instance--and run with it.

Thanks Kate. There is shade only half the day. Strong sun during the morning. That's the reason that the Nikko's didn't do well there. I love the Limelight and will give them a try. I have Endless on the south and they are doing well, although they are staying small. I have several halos on the the north and they too, are staying small.

I have Tardiva, ES and Annabelle on the east side of my house. All doing well except the 1 (of 6) ES I inexplicably lost this year. They get sun until around 1:00.
