Climbing Hyd question

Hi. I have about a 4-5 yr old climber and its flowering pretty good and just starting to cling to the River Birch it is attached to. There are alot of branches that are heading the wrong direction and will never attach. Does it make any sense to cut them back to send more energy to the other branches? They are just growing on the ground. Thanks bobby

Some people let it develop as a ground cover. If that is not part of your plan, prune it so it keeps heading in the direction that you want.

These guys need a bit of guidance to where you want the twines to go. I had to guide mine to both directions as I wanted them to cover horizotally a 40ftX4ft ugly retaining wall. Like Luis said I allowed a few twines to crawl on the ground as well & a bit on top of wall.
I'd use soft stretchy nylons & tie some twines around the trunk of your tree to guide them up ~ very soon their rootlets will cling & latch on!
