I would deadhead now the blooms that dried out and wait a month to see if the stems leaf out again. If they do not by mid-June, you can prune them in 1" or 2" increments until you hit green.

I can't remember exactly what happened to my crispies last summer. We had a ridiculously hot summer (95 degrees) with hardly any rain. All of my hydrangeas suffered, but mostly the nikkos. I lost a shamrock in a pot, but that really took months of sustained heat and a neglectful gardener (me!) who did not keep up on watering. My nikkos did eventually bounce back, but never bloomed. That's no surprise since they stopped blooming years ago.

Thanks y'all :) Interestingly, in the midst of this heat, the lone twist-n-shout is showing "fall" colors -- the leaves are bronzing a bit. Weird!!
