ES can be pruned at just about any time but I would try to time it after the main flush has happened so one can enjoy it. The lacecap, since it is anonymous, I assume it is not a rebloomer? In that case, I would prune it after the leaves start looking a little on the ugly side to you (this can be 2-6 weeks after the blooms open). Spring 2013 flower buds will begin to develop after June so, if you have care about the Spring blooms, prune these two on or before the end of June for sure. PS - when the dark green/black looking leaves dry out, I sometimes crush them with my hands.

Cut the dead stems down to the point of existing growth within the next week or two. If they haven't produced at least tiny leaves by now, they probably won't.

Both of my plants have new leaves and buds on them but in my zone they don't bloom till mid to end of June so I'm assuming that next spring's growth won't happen till July?
