Japanese beetles

Any suggestions for a spray I can spray on Limelight to prevent the beasts from having at it? Normally I just go around and drown them with the soapy water trick, but this is a tree form Limelight, and it was hard to reach last summer, and it's even taller this year. So, I was thinking a preventive spray might be the way to go.

Any recs? Is anything suitable for roses okay for a hydrangea? How about the products with Neem in them (had the Neem oil years ago and didn't like it, had to get out the tank sprayer, it was oily, and it stunk - but I've noticed now ready-mixed spray bottle products are available).

I purchased Garden Safe - Fungicide 3. It's a combination of Fungicide, Insecticide and Miticide. It states it controls varies insect pests and lists beetles including Japanese beetles.

Fungicide, Insecticide and Miticide??? Sounds like "overkill" to me. Why do you need to kill off non-existent diseases, plus all the good and bad bugs (the good bugs include bees, for instance) in order to kill off Japanese beetles?

If you check over on the Rose Forum, you will find that there is no foolproof way to get rid of JBs--although some products claim they work, they don't really do the job. Most rose growers end up carrying a soapy container around the garden and shaking the JBs off into it, where they drown.

JB time in the garden is a time of despair and frustration--because no good control methods exist.

You have a good point Kate, however it's all organic and I see it as protective, not overkill. The main reason I purchased was for the brown spot that one of the hydrangeas had. I haven't seen it harm any of the good insects as bees are buzzing around them
.
I think it's good to have a product that takes care of any of the "issues" we may encounter with the hydrangeas, but I'm just a newbie so maybe some one with more experience with this product can give more information. /forums/zone.html">Zone (optional):
