A fungus would usually discolor the leaves and turn them gray or brown or something like that. This looks more like damage by insects (adults or their larvae) nibbling on the leaves. To find out what is it, go outside during the day AND night until you catch it/them in action. Note that some pests are opportunistic, will nibble and then leave.

That's a relief to hear, thanks Luis. I have been inspecting the plant during the day and haven't seen any critters so I will set my alarm tonight and see what I can find. Maybe I should let my ducks into that bed and see if they can eat whatever it is. I guess bugs are better than a fungus though and easier to treat. Thanks again!

Doesn't even look worth waking up in the middle of the night to see what may or may not be going on. Likely it is nothing worth treating or worrying about. The flowers are going to come soon anyway.
