Searching for upright habitat hydrangeas

Hi,

We have a tiny tiny yard and I have big gardening dreams. I am smitten with hydrangeas, but alas, we don't have room for that many. Plus, I tend to like more upright plants. We currently have 3 serrata preziosa's that are great (although the color is a bit funny some years), and I was looking for some more plants that are more tall than wide, and not floppy. I'm also considering tree hydrangeas.

I have a slight preference for the pH sensitive ones, and prefer the small blooms (it makes me sad to see the big hydrangea blooms flopped into the dirt after a rain).

How tall are you looking for? As far as macs go, Forever &Ever Blue Heaven is a good example at 4x3' with thick stems and upright habit. Tree hydrangea is good if you like white and if there is full sun for them.

Thanks! I'll check out Blue Heaven, that may be just what I'm looking for.

I don't have a particular height in mind, more the shape that I'm after.

I really like Blue Heavens and as mentioned above they have huge blooms on sturdy upright stems. Only thing is they are very sensitive to sun as I have mentioned before in other posts. But bloom great for me in deeper shaded parts of my yard. I know all Macs are sensitive to sun, but they take the cake.

If you like Paniculata hydrangeas the Quickfire has very upright growth but might be to big for you.

My most compact (non floppy) Macs I have are Forever and Ever Together & Let's Dance Starlight. Two of my favorites and very dependable. I bought a FE White Out this year and seems great so far also. It stays very small.
