Pale hydrangeas, supposed to be blue

I planted my hydrangeas about 3 years ago. They're supposed to be blue--maybe Nikko?--and have been a pleasant but not too vibrant blue in the past. I know the color can be changed by altering the acidity, but mine aren't pink--they're coming in a very pale blue to almost white. Do they need some kind of fertilizer? I live in the Maryland suburbs of DC, where I think the soil tends to be fairly acidic.
