Good location for climbing hydrangea

actuary

The north and east sides of my yard are quite shady.
We have many mature trees.

I like the trees but they aren't individually impressive. They have been just growing here naturally for years I guess. Manitoba Maple, some kind of ash trees I think, a black willow, a Norwegian spruce. All with pretty high branches.

I was wondering if I could plant a climbing hydrangea to grow up the trunk of a tree? I bought one from the grocery today on an impulse, It is about 2.5 feet tall and blooming now.

Some of the trees have very shallow roots but others seem deeper. Would the hydrangea not like competing with the tree or could it kill a tree?

If that is not a good idea, I thought I could plant it next to our porch so it could grow up the lattice below the porch and eventually up the railings.
