Paniculata suitable for back of border?

I want to plant a Paniculata, but because of their size I would have to put them more towards the back of the border I have planned. I know you can get smaller ones but for a shrub that showy I want all my friends and neighbours to see and enjoy it too!

Question though: since it is suggested to cut down Hydrangeas once in a while to help renew them, does that not make them suitable to go to the back? I just worry that if I have something say 3-4 feet tall in front of it, it will look bad and possibly not get enough light.

Any insight or suggestions on this? Thanks.
