So new I don't even know where to start...

So, I planted three hydranges about a month ago. They are still alive (yay) but the blooms are starting to look old and getting pale. How long should I keep them on the plant? And when I cut them off, where should I make the cut?

I'd tell you the name of them, but I don't know. They are the "usual" ones, with the big round flower heads.

You can deadhead the blooms at any time but some people like to keep them for winter interest. On the other hand, if these are reblooming hydrangeas, deadheading promotes new bloomage so feel free to cut the strand that connects the bloom to the stem. If you have no fungal problems on the shrubs, feel free to use the spent blooms as mulch!
