propagating hydrangea from cutting

hello. I have been watching many videos about propagating from cuttings. I did a little of it in 2012 and I forget if you are supposed to put holes in the cover? If using a plastic bag, do you put holes in it? if using a fish tank or any other kind of container with a lid.....do you put holes in the lid? no one seems to mention that in their videos. if I recall, the answer is "no" because the leaves I think make their own oxygen and with no holes you get the humidity that you want. can someone refresh my memory with holes or no holes....
