I set a lawn chair to the southwest of the plant, partially over the plant in order to stop that blazing later afternoon sun. If I'm at home all day, I check every couple hours and move the lawn chair as needed as the sun moves across the sky.

Well, I figured I should at least update the thread with som pics. I used some wood stakes (about 36" length) and some "sun shade" screen door material. This material blocks more light than the standard aluminum stuff and looks like it will work well. It also isnt so tightly weaved that water wont get through. If it rains, it will still drip down to the plant below- good stuff!
I hammered the steaks in about 8" + and used flat thumb tacks to secure it to the stakes.

For reference I got both the screen and stakes at Lowes.
