top heavy peegee tree

Hi

i bought a pee gee tree grandiflora with a 3ft trunk and 6 or more large,long stems without any offshoots except at the endof each long branch. i can easily prune back the end terminalsto about 2 buds in early spring which there are a lot of. All the growth is at the top pulling the tree down, bending the trunk, even without the weight of the flowers. If i trim the 6 main branches, ill lose all of the ends that have forked off into potential flowers. if the main stems. What are my options? Looks like the top is leaning to one side Thanks

A three foot trunk? Youch that is big! Can you post a picture?

Use a 4-5ft tall metal stake or fence post pounded at least a foot into the ground, and some wire ties to hold the trunk upright until the trunk gets thick enough to hold itself up. This might take up to a few years...

Like stated by Springwood it might take years to get the trunk sturdy and should be staked. Although even years from now when the trunk is sturdy the foliage/branches will always flop towards the ground when it blooms.
